HEPA Vacuums not HEPA Filters

If you are having trouble beating your allergies it might not be your fault.  It might be your vacuum.

While many vacuums say they help you with your allergies because their vacuum has a HEPA filter that claim is in truth misleading.  While the filter is HEPA certified typically the vacuum is not.

This important detail can be the difference in the vacuum providing you with adequate allergy relief.  When a HEPA filter is certified it is tested for its ability to retain minute particles.  However, when that filter is placed in a vacuum not all of the particle picked up may pass through the filter.  Some vacuums may have leaks, bad bags or bad retention systems that allow particles to escape.

This is why it is important to look for a HEPA vacuum and not a HEPA filter.  A HEPA vacuum is one that has been certified as being a complete “sealed system”.  This system is a combination of a vacuum that lets nothing escape before it is passed through the filter and is adequately retained by the bag.

Miele Vacuums have been tested by DMT Air Quality Testing Institute, an independent institute that monitors air hygiene.  If you have allergies or elderly or young residents within your home it is important when evaluating a cleaning system that it is a true HEPA Vacuum that will provide quality relief and not a machine hiding behind the certification of their filter when the know this will not provide you with the relief you need.
